AUSTRALIA SURVEY 2016

GROUND CONTROL POINTS COLLECTION FOR

AccuEarth carried out an extensive survey throughout the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland in the summer of 2016. The Ground Control Points collected in this survey were used for georeferencing and orthorectification of high-resolution imagery. The project covered most of the significant settlements of the Australian west coast and adjacent part of the Outback, often consisting of one street with 10 houses and a cattle pen. More than 1400 Ground Control Points were collected in a vast area of approximately 1.6 million square kilometers ranging from the Pacific shore and the rainforests of coastal mountain ranges to the scorched desert plains of the Australian Outback. The survey was carried out by 4 surveyors from July till September. They drove over 40 000 km and collected more than 15.5 GB of raw data and complementary documentation. The project was very challenging due to the vastness and diversity of the Australian landscape and kept within a tight delivery deadline schedule and budget.. We surveyed this sizeable set of new GCPs for CompassData

Australia is a huge and colorful country. Apart from big, modern, pulsating metropolitan areas of the large cities, there are lots of isolated tiny settlements in various challenging environments. Whether it is aboriginal villages in the semi-equatorial climate zone in the Cape York Penninsula, Hamilton island where golf buggies are the only means of transportation, secluded places in the Outback or coastal mining towns where you need to wade through rivers and pass through jungle in order to get to.
